Your journey begins with a flight from your homeport to Launceston. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Launceston’s city centre.
Enjoy some time at leisure for you to explore more of the city before joining your tour group for a special welcome reception at your hotel.
❱ 2 nights: Hotel Grand Chancellor Launceston
★ We begin our day with breakfast at the scenic Cataract Gorge, a unique natural formation located near Launceston. Here, you will also enjoy a ride on the longest single chairlift span in the world.
The Gorge features walking tracks, a café, restaurant, swimming pool, suspension bridge, panoramic lookouts and the world’s longest single span chairlift. Enjoy some free time at the Gorge this morning before we continue to Hobart.
★ Our next stop for the day is at the Glebe Gardens.
First opened in 2009, the garden offers inspiration & ideas for your next landscaping & gardening project in a friendly, relaxed environment. Wander through over 6 acres of cutting hedge design which display many different landscaping concepts, ideas & styles.
★ Travel to Longford and visit the UNESCO World Heritage listed colonial farm village of Brickendon.
Immerse yourself in one of Tasmania’s oldest farming properties, settled in 1824 by William Archer. The stunning rural landscape, magnificent heritage gardens, amazing collection of convict constructed buildings, family history and memorabilia are a must-see during your visit to Longford.
★ Indulge in a delicious lunch (own expense) before travelling to the nearby Woolmers Estate, a farming estate located in Longford that offers a unique & fascinating reflection of colonial life in Tasmania.
It was founded in 1817 by prominent grazier and member of parliament Thomas Archer. It consists of an 82ha property that is one of the most historically significant heritage properties in Australia, including a two-part manor house, coach house, the National Rose Garden, extensive convict cottages & outbuildings and formal gardens.
We begin our day with a tour to Deloraine, a delightful riverside town with a historic streetscape lined with Georgian & Victorian buildings.
★ Visit the Yarns Artworks in Silk, a large scale community art project of quilted, soft sculpture silk panels.
See the 4 silk panels that were created by more than 300 community members using hand working techniques. An informative audio presentation will provide you with the details on what the panels depict as well as how & why they were made.
★ Indulge in a delicious morning tea as you step back in time at the ‘Cruizin in the 50s Diner’.
Enjoy old fashioned service with a smile, view an array of authentic memorabilia and choose from the 50s inspired menu.
★ We then travel to the Melita Honey Farm in Chudleigh where you will have the opportunity to taste over 50 different honey varieties including the famous Tasmanian manuka honey.
Watch thousands of bees make honey in the indoor exhibition hive and discover more about the mysteries of Queen bee & her loyal workers at the fun interactive beehive.
★ Later, we visit the beautiful Kaydale Lodge Gardens in Nietta.
This privately-owned family obsession first began as a bare paddock in 1979. Today, this diverse 2 hectare country garden is the result of the family’s enthusiasm for using stone and a love of cold climate plants. The garden continues to grow and expand, with grand scale rockery, pear walk, zen garden and the productive vegetable garden with its seasonal produce that is used in the dining room.
Continue later today to the beautiful region of Cradle Mountain. Dinner is included at your hotel tonight.
❱ 1 night: Cradle Mountain Lodge
Enjoy breakfast at the Cradle Mountain Lodge before having some free time in the Cradle Mountain National Park with an opportunity to visit Dove Lake. The lake offers excellent views of Cradle Mountain, unexpected beaches, the ancient Ballroom Forest & the occasional echidna or platypus.
★ We travel to Lower Crackpot and Tasmazia, a crazy complex located in the wonderfully named Promised Land in the heart of Tasmania’s beautiful Cradle Mountain & Lakes District.
Tasmazia includes 8 mazes, and a whimsical model village built to 1/5th scale. There is a cafeteria for lunch, gift shop and ever-present views of the majestic Mount Roland. Later, we stop by Sheffield, a town renowned for its murals. Enjoy some time to stroll around the town with time to admire the murals and take plenty of photos.
★ Later, we travel to Ross Village where you will have time to visit the Tasmanian Wool Centre, Convict Female Factory or have afternoon tea at a café.
The Ross Female Factory was a former Australian workhouse for female convicts in the penal colony of Van Diemen’s Land and Ross showcases the Tasmanian convict history quite well, whether it’s the bridge constructed in 1836 or the old homesteads still lining the streets.
❱ 2 nights: Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart
★ Spend today experiencing the Tasman Peninsula’s spectacular coastlines, caves, blowholes and World Heritage listed convict sites.
An easy and very pretty 70 min drive from Hobart, much of the peninsula is protected as national park, given its beauty and natural diversity. It is home to many animals including the brush tail possum, wallabies, wombats, bandicoots, Australian fur seals, penguins, dolphins and migrating whales as well as the endangered swift parrot and many forest-dwelling birds.
You may also see endangered wedge-tailed eagles and sea eagles overhead. This spectacular coastal environment includes soaring 300 metre high sea cliffs and a number eagles and sea eagles overhead. This spectacular coastal environment includes soaring 300-metre-high sea cliffs and a number of fascinating coastal rock formations such as Tessellated Pavement, the Blow Hole, Tasman Arch, Devil’s Kitchen, Remarkable Cave and Waterfall Bay. Doo Town is a fun place to visit – make sure you take note of the “shack’s” names.
★ The Tasman Peninsula is best known for the famous Port Arthur Historic Site, one of five World Heritage listed convict sites in Tasmania.
Here, you will partake in a guided tour which will tell you about the site’s buildings, its people and its past.
After your tour, join a harbour cruise past Point Puer & the Isle of the Dead with commentary onboard about the history of the area. You will also have some free time to explore over 30 historic buildings, ruins, restored homes, heritage gardens and walking trails.
Return back to Hobart later today in time for a special farewell dinner at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart.
★ After breakfast, we travel southwest to the lovely town of Margate.
This small seaside town was once a port where coal burning steamers brought all of the supplies to. Its jetty was about 80 metres long and was able to serve ships drawing up to 7 metres. The town is surrounded by vineyards, grazing fields and stands of trees. Enjoy a tour around Margate including a stop at the Margate Train, Tasmania’s last passenger train. Its restored carriages now house a variety of shops selling arts & crafts, bric-a-brac, books and food.
★ We visit the Inverawe Native Gardens where you will learn about Margaret & Bill’s excellent Tasmanian landscaped garden adventure!
Inverawe is a pioneering garden that sets the scene for Australian gardens of the future. With a wide variety of Australian plants in a landscaped setting, the garden is ideal for Australia’s hot, dry climate. Enjoy strolling through the 22 acres of colourful landscaped native gardens whilst taking in the stunning views of North West Bay and listening to the birds.
You will receive a personal introduction to the garden and a colourful map to guide you, with poetry, sculptures & whimsy throughout the garden.
