Day By Day Itinerary

Day 1: Homeport to Hobart (D)
Your Tasmanian Wonders holiday begins with a flight to Hobart, the largest city in Tasmania. You will be met on arrival at Hobart Airport and taken to your hotel. Enjoy the company of your Travel Director and fellow travellers this evening at a Welcome Reception and dinner.
1 night: Best Western Hobart
Day 2: Hobart to Strahan via Mt Field National Park (BD)
Head west to New Norfolk and magnificent Mt. Field National Park. Walk through lush rainforest to the tiered cascade of picturesque Russell Falls. Then enjoy the scenic drive to iconic Lake St. Clair, the deepest freshwater lake in Australia, and continue through the rainforest to the coastal town of Strahan. Nestled on the shores of massive Macquarie Harbour, Strahan is the gateway to the World Heritage listed Franklin- Gordon Wild Rivers National Park.
2 nights: Strahan Village
Day 3: Strahan - Gordon River Cruise (BLD)
Today’s highlight experience is a lunch cruise on the Gordon River. The inky waters of the Gordon River – given its colour by amber button-grass tannins – are as eery as they are beautiful, the mirror-like surface only broken by your Gordon River chariot as you cruise through Hells Gates, the treacherous entrance to the harbour before returning to Sarah Island. It’s hard to reconcile the beauty of this part of the state with its grim history as a penal colony; a place where convicts would fell Huon pines for boat building. Disembark at Heritage Landing to view one of these 500-year-old majestic trees. Safely back on dry land, it’s soon time to discover ‘The Ship That Never Was,’ the dramatic and hilarious true story of the Great Escape from Sarah Island! You’ll see it performed live by a group of theatre professionals.
Day 4: Strahan to Burnie via Cradle Mountain (BLD)
Today your journey reaches new heights – quite literally with a visit to the 1,545-metre Cradle Mountain, your backdrop as you explore Dove Lake on your Cradle Mountain tour, the wild alpine moorlands here a natural magnet for lovers of the wilderness. The spectacular and pristine wilderness of Cradle Mountain is home to the mysterious and secretive Tasmanian Devil. You’ll love the next adventure today, a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience. A Day Keeper at Devils @ Cradle will lead you through the sanctuary and provide you with a thorough insight into its operation. When joining this tour you will be directly supporting these animals and threatened species conservation. Leave the Central Highlands after an uplifting day and head towards the scenic north-west coast for your overnight stay.
1 night: Beachfront Voyager Motor Inn
Day 5: Burnie to Launceston (B)
Table Cape is by far Wynyard’s most remarkable natural wonder, at 180 metres high, ‘The Cape’ – as locals refer to it – offers spectacular views of Tasmania’s coastline. As you drive to the top of the remains of a 12-million-year-old volcano you’ll reach Table Cape lookout where, on a clear day, you can see mountain ranges over 175 kilometres away. If there’s a town with a cuter name than Penguin, we’re yet to find it. Locals embrace its appeal – there are penguin sculptures at every turn, including one measuring over 3 metres tall. Your journey along the northwest coast also passes through Ulverstone and Sheffield, The Town of Murals, boasting over 100 large paintings depicting the area’s rich history and local characters. All this exploring builds an appetite. Refuel at Ashgrove Tasmanian Farm, where happy cows contribute to award-winning cheeses – everything from cheddar and red Leicester to creamy Tasmanian blue.
2 nights: Best Western Plus Launceston
Day 6: Launceston (B)
Travel through the rolling hills of the Tamar Valley to Cataract Gorge. Free time today. After taking time to discover Cataract Gorge, this afternoon is at your leisure for your own exploration of Tasmania’s ‘northern capital’, Launceston.
Day 7: Launceston to Bicheno (BD)
Bridestowe Lavender Estate, producer of high quality lavender since 1922, is your first stop. Later, visit the Legerwood Carved Memorial Trees site, then follow the picturesque east coast to Bicheno. This evening, you might like to take an optional experience tour to see either Bicheno’s wild penguins as they emerge from the ocean (seasonal), or the iconic Tasmanian Devil.
Day 8: Bicheno to Hobart via Freycinet National Park (B)
Experience the grandeur of Freycinet National Park, taking a guided walk to the lookout at Cape Tourville. Take in the astonishing views across brilliant blue water, verdant forest and golden beaches before travelling through Swansea & Oxford on your way to Hobart. Stop for lunch in the historic town of Richmond. The village is famous for its elegant Georgian architecture, with beautiful heritage buildings dating to the 1820s now housing galleries, tea shops, craft boutiques and museums.
2 nights: Best Western Hobart
Day 9: Port Arthur Historic Site (BD)
Explore the Port Arthur Historic Site today, taking a cruise around the Isle of the Dead and a fascinating guided walk of the remains of Port Arthur’s infamous convict prison. There will be time for you to wander the site at your leisure. On the drive back to Hobart, see the amazing natural rock formations of the craggy Tasman Arch, the Devil’s Kitchen and the Blowhole. This evening, mingle with your fellow travellers at a Farewell Dinner in one of Hobart’s popular restaurants.
Day 10: Hobart to Homeport (B)
Say farewell to your fellow travellers when your holiday comes to an end this morning after breakfast. You will be transferred to Hobart Airport in time for your flight home.
