Pre-Tour Arrangements for Interstate Travellers

Fly from your homeport to the city of Adelaide, South Australia on the day before your tour begins. A transfer will take you to your hotel for your overnight stay. The rest of your day is at leisure for you to explore the city.

There’s plenty to see and do in Adelaide – why not take a tour of the famous Adelaide Oval, a stroll down Rundle Mall or take a short tram ride to the seaside suburb of Glenelg. If you are arriving in Adelaide in the morning, you may also wish to take a half day tour to the McLaren Vale wine region or to the picturesque Adelaide Hills. Tonight, we recommend dining at one of the many restaurants in the city or in the seaside suburb of Glenelg.

❱ Hotel stay: Mercure Grosvenor Hotel or similar (1 night)

Day 1 – Board the Sun Princess (D)

This afternoon, board the Sun Princess. Enjoy some time at leisure aboard the ship before indulging in a welcome dinner onboard.

❱ Ocean cruise: Sun Princess (6 nights)

Day 2 – Kangaroo Island (BLD)

Kangaroo Island boasts the kind of beauty that will stop you in your tracks. Over half the island is covered with “old-growth” bush land supporting huge populations of kangaroo, koala, goana, wallaby and other native Australian animals. Blessed by vast, open spaces and loads of sun, the “Islanders” raise sheep, create and cellar wines, produce sheep’s milk cheese, distill eucalyptus oil, and harvest the honey of the treasured Ligurian Bee. And there is a thriving art community producing internationally-renowned artwork, woolen items, and crafts. The quintessential seaside town of Penneshaw, where cruise ships dock and ferries come and go, is your gateway to it all.

Day 3 – At Sea (BLD)

Enjoy a full day at sea to take advantage of the many activities available onboard the Sun Princess.

Day 4 – Burnie (BLD)

Located on Bass Strait, Burnie is Tasmania’s fourth-largest city and a major port. Burnie, surrounded by prime productive farmlands is the gateway to scenic northwest Tasmania, an area rich in picturesque old villages, homesteads and historic homes. Inland lies the rainforest and wilderness of Cradle Mountain National Park, a World Heritage Site.

Day 5 – Melbourne (BLD)

Victoria may be Australia’s smallest continental state, but Melbourne, its capital, is big on everything. With a population of 4.25 million people living in 59 separately named communities within 715 square miles, Melbourne is a sprawling city offering culture, art, fashion and friendly, sports-minded Australians. It is also an easy city to explore. At the heart of the city is the Golden Mile, the city’s governmental and commercial center, home to hotels, shops, restaurants and theaters.

Day 6 – At Sea (BLD)

Enjoy another full day at sea to take advantage of the many activities available onboard the Sun Princess.

Day 7 – Arrive in Sydney (BL)

Welcome to Sydney! Disembark your cruise after breakfast and be transferred to your hotel in Sydney’s city centre.

❱ Hotel stay: Rendezvous Hotel Sydney Central or similar (4 nights)

Days 8 to 10 – Sydney

Enjoy 3 full days at leisure to explore the city of Sydney. There’s plenty to see & do in the city – take a stroll along Darling Harbour, go shopping in the historic Queen Victoria Building or explore Circular Quay & the Sydney Opera House.

Alternatively, you may wish to join a day tour to the surrounding regions including Bondi Beach, Manly, the Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley & the South Coast. Ask us for more details (extra cost applies).

Day 11 – Depart Sydney (D)

Depart Sydney in the afternoon and start a true journey of contrasts – it will take you through the heights of the majestic Blue Mountains to lush vineyards, and from cities of 4 million to ghost towns of just four citizens.

Get acquainted with staff and your cabin, and settle in for the journey. As you venture beyond the city limits, settle back, open a book or switch on your onboard radio upon approach to the spectacular Blue Mountains. If you’d rather be social, make your way to the Outback Explorer Lounge to meet fellow guests and help yourself to a welcome drink.

As the train continues to navigate the heights of the ranges, it’s time to sate your appetite with one of the Indian Pacific’s signature dining experiences. Perhaps sample the grilled swordfish or the tender lamb shoulder slow-cooked in Kangaroo Island honey and black vinegar? Just make sure you leave room for your dessert which could be the apple and wild rosella flower strudel or a regional cheese plate comprising Hunter Belle blue, Alexandrina cheddar and Margaret River brie.

After a sumptuous dinner, join other guests for a few late-night drinks or head to your cabin to settle in early and await the sights of your first incredible outback sunrise the next day.

❱ Rail journey: Indian Pacific Train (1 night)

Day 12 – Arrive in Adelaide (B)

Wake up with a coffee as you arrive in Broken Hill, a classic mining town where the streets are wide and there is a pub on every corner. On your Off Train Excursion, explore the beauty of this Silver City and discover the history of mining that makes the town what it is today and the artistic culture that also abounds in the area. Visit the Pro Hart Gallery, where you can learn all about one of Australia’s most iconic and enduring artists, whose art captures the spirit of the outback.

Stepping back onboard, head straight to Queen Adelaide Restaurant for breakfast. An extensive menu caters to all tastes – from light fare such as bagels, cereals and juices to the traditional cooked Australian breakfast. Take your time as you have a full day onboard to yourself. By the time lunch is served, you’ll already be well into South Australia on the southern tip of the Flinders Ranges. What better way to celebrate than digging into a beautifully prepared South Eastern Australian beef medallion, served with dauphinoise potato, broccolini onion jam and red wine jus?

In no time, you’ll notice a dramatic change in landscape as the outback makes way for the green fields of South Australia. Arrive into Adelaide in the late afternoon.

Post-Tour Arrangements for Interstate Travellers

You will be dropped off at your hotel in Adelaide at the end of your tour for your overnight stay.

Ask us about optional tours that are available today including day tours to the Barossa Valley, Adelaide Hills or the McLaren Vale wine region.
