Your adventure begins with a flight to the beautiful city of Adelaide. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of your day is at leisure.
Ask us about a range of optional activities available or simply take a stroll along the newly redeveloped Riverbank precinct or go shopping at nearby Rundle Mall.
❱ 1 night: Grosvenor Hotel or similar
Adelaide travellers will be met at home and transferred to the Central Bus Station to join the tour. Interstate travellers will be picked up from the Grosvenor Hotel.
A delicious boxed breakfast will be provided to you as you travel aboard our luxurious air-conditioned motor coach from Adelaide. We begin our journey to Broken Hill via South Australia’s historic farming and sheep breeding stations. We travel through towns such as Riverton, Saddleworth & Burra. After a stop for lunch, we continue through Yunta & the Barrier Ranges to one of Australia’s most famous cities, Broken Hill. We check into our accommodation on arrival and enjoy some free time before dinner.
❱ 4 nights: Desert Sand Motor Inn
After a cooked breakfast, we tour to Iron Knob where the first iron ore deposit was discovered. The town grew up between the two “sister” quarries and supplied Whyalla with ore for its steel & shipbuilding industry for many years.
We stop for morning tea before departing Iron Knob and travelling in a westerly direction along an old dirt road through sheep station country passing to Mt Ive Station. After a picnic lunch, here we take the station track to visit Lake Gairdner. This incredible Salt Lake is so large, it is visible from space!
We then travel down through old Buckleboo and take the Stringer Highway (another dirt track) to re-join the Eyre Highway. We then continue west through Kyancutta and arriving in Wudinna, the gateway to the Gawler Ranges. Indulge in a delicious dinner at your motel’s restaurant tonight.

Merry Christmas to all! Passengers wishing to attend Christmas church services are welcome to check with our tour leader for details. This morning is free before enjoying a pre-Christmas drink with your fellow travellers and sitting down to your Christmas Lunch. Our lunch today will be prepared by the resident chef who will prepare a delightful and traditional Christmas lunch with all the Christmas trimmings.
Later in the afternoon we take a tour to the Flora & Fauna sanctuary located just outside of the town. The sanctuary has been planned and designed carefully to provide an insight to the Indigenous culture of western NSW. Their located on a majestic hilltop and within the centre of the reserve is a 12 sandstone sculpture park which was completed in 1993 by a group of international sculptors.
Today we visit Menindee which is situated on Australia’s longest river – The Darling. The town is located 113km from Broken Hill. The sight was first visited by Major Thomas Mitchell the explorer in 1835 and became the first town settled in Western NSW. The famed Burke & Wheel’s expedition camped here on the 14th of October 1860. The leaders on the expedition, including Burke & Wheels, stayed at the Menindee Hotel which was known at the time as the Pains Hotel.
During our Menindee visit, see a group of 9 huge lakes, forming the Menindee Lake system which is a wonderful Mecca for birding watching as there are 236 recorded bird life on the lakes. After lunch at the historic hotel, we visit the Burk and Wheel memorial before returning to Broken Hill. After dinner, passengers may wish to enjoy a visit to a local pub.
After breakfast today is farewell to our hosts as we set off to tour back to Adelaide. We are going to travel on the Barrier highway, through the Barrier ranges, before arriving at Yunta. After a short refreshment stop here, we continue to Burra where lunch will be provided.
Later we continue south through South Australia’s mid north, passing through small townships and old railway settlements including Riverton and Tarlee. We arrive back into Adelaide at the bus station at 5pm. On arrival, passengers will be met by chauffeured cars to return you to your home/hotel.
Stay the night on return to Adelaide and fly home the following day.
On our tour’s return to Adelaide, you will be taken to your hotel in the city centre. The next day, enjoy some time at leisure to explore Adelaide. Ask us about optional tours that are available today. Later, you will be transferred to the airport in time for your flight.
