Your Canberra Floriade adventure begins with a flight from your homeport to Sydney. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of your day is at leisure for you to explore the city.
❱ Hotel stay: Rydges Sydney Central (1 night)
Depart Sydney this morning at 7.30am with your experienced Driver Guide and travel through the rolling hills and verdant pastures of the Southern Highlands.
Pause at historic Berrima to see its convict-era sandstone gaol, then visit Gold Creek Station to meet a local grazier and enjoy a delicious barbecue lunch. Gold Creek is a working pastoral property that currently runs merino sheep and beef cattle.
On arrival in Canberra join a local guide for a tour of Parliament House, the seat of the nation’s government. Built almost entirely of Australian materials, over 10,000 people worked its construction. See the most significant features of Parliament House including both chambers of Parliament, the Marble Foyer, the Great Hall, Members Hall and highlights of the Parliament House Art Collection.
You will then visit the Australian War Memorial, which brings together a world-class museum, a shrine and an extensive archive. Hear an evocative lament before departing for your hotel. Enjoy dinner at your hotel with your travelling companions.
❱ Hotel stay: Crowne Plaza Canberra (2 nights)
Today enjoy the spectacle and festivities of Floriade, the nation’s biggest celebration of spring! Originally developed as a floral display to celebrate Australia’s Bicentenary and Canberra’s 75th birthday, this month-long festival attracts more than 480,000 attendees every year.
Start the day with a guided walk of the grounds and experience the beauty of spring with over one million blooms on display. You will also have the chance to take in the event’s diverse, ever-expanding program of music, cultural celebrations, food & wine stalls, horticultural workshops, market traders, artistic displays, entertainment and recreational activities.
Tonight, you may wish to extend your stay with tickets to the magical, mesmerising NightFest (additional cost applies). Here, you can wander through the illuminated garden beds before heading to the stage for the nightly entertainment.
Travel to the Southern Highlands and visit Bowral to take in the Tulip Time Festival at Corbett Gardens. Experience a kaleidoscope of colour, with over 75,000 mass planted tulips nestled amongst the blossoming mature trees of Corbett Gardens – the centrepiece of the Tulip Time Festival. Visit an array of market stalls and enjoy many photo opportunities.
Later today, we travel to the pretty Southern Highlands town of Mittagong for Devonshire Tea. The historic town of Mittagong is an excellent example of a country town which has managed to retain its original beginnings, with old & new side by side.
Indulge in tea or coffee and hot scones with jam and cream before travelling back to Sydney, arriving in the city at about 5pm.
❱ Hotel stay: Rydges Sydney Central (2 nights)
After breakfast, we set off on a full day of discovery taking in some of Sydney’s most famous highlights.
Travel to Milsons Point and enjoy an unhindered view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Opera House & city skyline. We then travel to the entrance of the harbour at North Head. Here, the heath-covered clifftop will reveal stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and a spectacular panorama of the harbour & city skyline.
Visit the famous beachside suburb of Manly, take a walk along the Corso and see the beach that made Manly famous! Here, you will have some free time to take a stroll along the beach or perhaps treat yourself to a coffee in one of the many cafes (own expense) before we return to the city.
Board a scenic cruise to take in the stunning harbour views whilst you enjoy a delicious buffet lunch. Indulge in fresh Australian seafood, tender prime meats and seasonal fruit & vegetables as you enjoy the expert commentary.
Spend the rest of your afternoon at leisure in Darling Harbour, exploring the fascinating underwater world at Sea Life Sydney Aquarium. You will also discover native Australian animals at the Wild Life Sydney Zoo with a chance to get up-close to koalas, kangaroos and more!
Sadly, today marks the end of your Canberra Floriade adventure. Say farewell to your fellow travellers and be transferred to Sydney Airport in time for your flight home.
