Travel arrangements commence on the day before the tour departs.
Your adventure begins with a flight to the beautiful city of Adelaide. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of your day is at leisure.
Ask us about a range of optional activities available or simply take a stroll along the newly redeveloped Riverbank precinct or go shopping at nearby Rundle Mall.
❱ 1 night: Grosvenor Hotel or similar
Adelaide travellers will be met at home and transferred to the Central Bus Station to join the tour. Interstate travellers will be picked up from the Grosvenor Hotel.
We begin our journey to the beautiful Eyre Peninsula today with a stop at Port Wakefield for morning tea before continuing to Port Augusta for a lunch break. We then head west, following the Lincoln Highway to the town of Whyalla, one of South Australia’s best kept secrets.
The town is renowned for its dramatic events, stunning coastal & outback scenery.
❱ 1 night: Alexander Motel
After a cooked breakfast, we inspect the town’s new jetty before we tour to Iron Knob where the first iron ore deposit was discovered. The town grew up between the two “sister” quarries and supplied Whyalla with ore for its steel & shipbuilding industry for many years. We stop for morning tea before departing Iron Knob and continuing along the Eyre highway to Kimba, then Kyancutta to Wudinna, which is situated on the edge of Gawler Ranges. After a break for our lunch, we continue to Poochara before travelling to Streaky Bay. Streaky Bay is a delightful coastal township situated on the Southern Ocean adjoining the Great Australian Bight. Our stay in Streaky Bay will be at the Streaky Bay Hotel Motel. This evening we enjoy dinner at the restaurant in the hotel.
❱ 1 night: Streaky Bay Hotel Motel
After breakfast today, we begin our leisurely and scenic drive to the Point Labatt Conservation Park. From the cliff top viewing platform here, we have the opportunity to see rare and endangered sea lions sleeping and frolicking on the beach. This colony is the only one of its kind on the Australian mainland. After lunch, we tour along the coach via Smoky Bay to Ceduna, where we check in to our accommodation for the next 3 nights.
❱ 3 nights: Ceduna Foreshore Hotel Motel
Today, we set off from Ceduna and travel west via the Great Eyre Highway passing through Penong, the Nundroo Roadhouse & Yalata before arriving at the Nullarbor Roadhouse for lunch. We then travel to the Oceans edge at the Head of the Bight to enjoy the amazing spectacle & beautiful sights of up to 90 magnificent whales playing below – a truly amazing experience! Between June & October each year, the Southern Right Whales take up “residence” at the Head of the Bight after travelling from the Antarctic to the Head of the Bight to breed & enjoy the warmer waters. Marvel at the lopping, diving, spy hopping & slow-motion somersaults of the majestic whales from the 2 special viewing platforms which will provide you with an up-close view. The interpretive centre here will also give you an insight into the ancient history of this area. Later, we travel back to Ceduna for dinner.
This morning, we visit a unique schoolhouse museum in Ceduna. The museum includes many original artefacts and relics retrieved from the Maralinga atom bomb testing site, which occurred in the area on September 2, 1956. The area has since been cleared up from radiation. We also visit the Ceduna Aboriginal Arts and Cultural Centre which has a wonderful range of paintings, local pottery and ceramics created by local artists and are available for purchase. Later in the morning, we set off and travel to Fowlers Bay. On arrival at Fowlers Bay, we board an interesting cruise which provides us with great opportunities to spot many of the whales playing in the ocean. Discover the fascinating yet brutal history of Fowlers Bay, learn about Whale Baleen Plate, hold some very rare Ambergris and listen to real-time underwater acoustics including the famous Humpback Whale Song! On our return to shore we enjoy lunch by the sea at the Fowlers Bay Caravan Park before we tour back to Ceduna for dinner.
After breakfast today, we begin our leisurely tour along the coastline which will take us onto Port Lincoln. Our first stop will be at the unique rock formations named Murphy’s Haystacks – the 1,600 year-old rocks are a landmark in the area. We continue to Port Kenny and later travel onto Elliston arriving at Mount Dutton Bay Woolshed mid-afternoon. At Mount Dutton Bay, we experience a tour of the Woolshed Museum and we will be entertained by great stories and the history of the area while enjoying Devonshire afternoon tea. Later, we continue east along the Peninsula to Port Lincoln for our 2-night stay.
❱ 2 nights: Hilton Motel
Port Lincoln is well known for a variety of reasons, including tuna fishing and breeding, Great White Sharks and the Australian Sea Lions. After breakfast, we cruise from Port Lincoln and learn about the town’s colourful history that brings beautiful seafood to your plate. Cruise the waters of the largest, most sheltered harbour in the world and learn things that only a local would know. Your cruise will take you to places such as the canals of the Lincoln Cove Marina, Porter Bay, Boston Bay, Port Lincoln National Park, Boston Island, our local Sea Lion colony and views of Port Lincoln that can only be seen from the water! Whilst onboard, enjoy an array of fresh local seasonal seafood including prawns, mussels, sashimi tuna & kingfish. During our hour-long visit, we cruise around the waterway adjacent to the township and visit the Kellidie Bay Oyster Farms and the original oyster farm. We return back to our hotel in Port Lincoln this evening. Dinner tonight is at your leisure – you may choose to dine at your hotel or at one of the many restaurants nearby.
After breakfast, we board a purpose-cruise ship for an exciting day of seeing the Great White Sharks in the wild! This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view the legendary Great White Shark in its natural habitat. Start your day with a 6am transfer & a cruise to the Neptune Island Group before viewing the magnificent sharks from a submersible glass viewing area that allows you to stay completely dry! Port Lincoln is the only place in Australia where you can view Great White Sharks, with the opportunity to cage dive with them. Jump onboard for an exciting day of adventure, education & lots of fun! It’s the ultimate day of wildlife spotting from Port Lincoln!
After breakfast, we depart Port Lincoln and begin our journey back to Adelaide. We stop in Port Augusta for lunch before following the Augusta Highway and travelling to Adelaide, arriving at 6pm. Adelaide travellers will be met on arrival at the Adelaide Central Bus Station and transferred home by chauffeured vehicle.
Stay the night on return to Adelaide and fly home the following day.
On our tour’s return to Adelaide, you will be taken to your hotel in the city centre. The next day, enjoy some time at leisure to explore Adelaide. Ask us about optional tours that are available today. Later, you will be transferred to the airport in time for your flight.
