Your adventure begins with a flight to the beautiful city of Adelaide. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of your day is at leisure.
❱ 1 night: Mercure Grosvenor Hotel or similar
Adelaide travellers will be met at home and transferred to the Central Bus Station to join the tour. Interstate travellers will be picked up from the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel.
We begin our journey to the beautiful Eyre Peninsula today with a stop at Port Wakefield for morning tea before continuing on to Port Augusta for a lunch break. We then head west, following the Lincoln Highway to the town of Whyalla, one of South Australia’s best kept secrets. The town is renowned for its dramatic events, stunning coastal & outback scenery.
❱ 1 night: Alexander Motel
★ After a cooked breakfast, we tour to Iron Knob where the first iron ore deposit was discovered.
The town grew up between the two “sister” quarries and supplied Whyalla with ore for its steel & shipbuilding industry for many years. We stop for morning tea before departing Iron Knob and travelling in a westerly direction along an old dirt road through sheep station country passing to Mt Ive Station.
★ After a picnic lunch, here we take the station track to visit Lake Gairdner. This incredible salt lake is so large, it is visible from space!
We then travel down through old Buckleboo and take the Stringer Highway (another dirt track) to re-join the Eyre Highway before continuing west through Kyancutta and arriving in Wudinna, the gateway to the Gawler Ranges.
Indulge in a delicious dinner at your motel’s restaurant tonight.
❱ 1 night: Gawler Ranges Motel
After breakfast, we continue our tour travelling through the Gawler Ranges on our way to Ceduna on the South Australian coastline.
★ Explore the Gawler Ranges, an area that is virtually untouched since the beginning of time and one rarely visited by tourists due to the lack of accommodation & other facilities in its unspoilt wilderness.
Hidden in the ranges are amazing rock formations filled with colour. Stunning boulders of granite towering above plains often filled with colourful vegetation and seasonal wildflowers. Rare yellow footed rock wallabies can be seen hopping around enjoying their natural environment during our journey. We stop for morning tea and later in the day for a picnic lunch.
Later, we pass the ruins of buildings long abandoned due to the harsh times in years gone by before arriving in Ceduna. Ceduna is the last South Australian township of significance when travelling west, with just roadhouses lying between it and the town of Norseman which is located 1,208km west in Western Australia. Dinner is included at your hotel tonight.
❱ 3 nights: Ceduna Foreshore Hotel Motel
Today, we set off from Ceduna and travel west via the Great Eyre Highway passing through Penong, the Nundroo Roadhouse & Yalata before arriving at the Nullabor Hotel for lunch.
★ We then travel back to the Head of the Great Australian Bight and enjoy the amazing spectacle & beautiful sights of up to 60 magnificent whales – a truly amazing experience!
Between June & October each year, the Southern Right Whales take up “residence” at the Head of the Bight after travelling from the Antarctic to the Head of the Bight to breed & enjoy the warmer waters. Marvel at the lopping, diving, spy hopping & slow motion somersaults of the majestic whales from the 2 special viewing platforms which will provide you with an up-close view.
Later, we travel back to Ceduna for dinner.
Today we set off along the Eyre Highway towards the Nullarbor National Park Reserve. We travel via Penong and onto Bookabie to the little fishing village of Fowlers Bay.
★ On arrival at Fowlers Bay, we board an interesting cruise which provides us with great opportunities to spot many of the whales playing in the ocean.
Discover the fascinating yet brutal history of Fowlers Bay, learn about Whale Baleen Plate, hold some very rare Ambergris and listen to real-time underwater acoustics including the famous Humpback Whale Song! On our return to shore we enjoy lunch by the sea at the Folwers Bay Caravan Park before we tour back to Ceduna for dinner.
★ This morning we travel along the Flinders highway following the coastline to Smoky Bay and onto Streaky Bay.
The town renowned for its stunning coastal scenery, fantastic local seafood and all the beach activities. After refreshments, we continue to Coffin Bay, a picturesque town on the shores of a beautiful estuary suited 50km from Port Lincoln.
★ We take a close up look at the famous Coffin Bay Oysters – recognised as some of the finest oysters on the planet!
These oysters are grown in South Australia’s pristine waters and are shipped all around the world. During our hour long visit, we cruise around the waterway adjacent to the township and visit the Kellidie Bay Oyster Farms and the original oyster farm. Learn more about the oysters with informative commentary from your host – the oyster farmer himself!
Later, we travel along the Flinders Highway to Port Lincoln, the jewel of the Eyre Peninsula and the Seafood Capital of Australia.
❱ 2 nights: Hilton Motel Port Lincoln
Port Lincoln is well known for a variety of reasons, including Tuna fishing and breeding, Great White Sharks and the Australian Sea Lions.
★ After breakfast, we cruise the waters of beautiful Boston Bay with local operator Peter Dennis whilst learning about the Tuna & Aquaculture industries.
View working Tuna or Kingfish Farms and the friendly seals frolicking nearby. Taste some of the delicious fresh Blue Fin Tuna Sashimi while you are anchored in sheltered waters and enjoy the full commentary that is given throughout your cruise.
