A journey along the Gibb River Road 4WD route is one of Australia’s last true Outback adventures. Originally constructed in the 1960s to transport stock from surrounding cattle stations, it stretches some 660km from King Sound in Derby to Wyndham. The Gibb River Road will take you through spectacular scenery, passing many gorges, waterfalls & rivers. Take your time exploring the region, with plenty of opportunities for hiking and taking a refreshing swim in pools beneath plunging waterfalls. It’s one of Australia’s most spectacular journeys.

Explore the picturesque Nitmiluk Gorge in Katherine.
Enjoy a truly memorable experience as you travel through the picturesque Nitmiluk Gorge. Marvel at the sheer rock face walls as the scenery becomes more striking as you head further into the Gorge. The inspiring Katherine Gorge comprises 13 different gorges, carved over a millennia by the Katherine River. Your 2 hour scenic cruise will give you an insight into the cultural significance of the first 2 gorges to the traditional land owners – the Jawoyn people.

Explore the unique Bungle Bungles in the Purnululu National Park.
Follow the Great Northern Highway to the Purnululu National Park, the home of the magnificent Bungle Bungles. A 2 night stay at the Bungle Bungles National Park Campsite allows you a full day to explore the highlights of this extraordinary National Park, the most famous of which are the Bungle Bungle domes. Rivers created this landscape of unique orange & black striped beehive geological formations over a period of 20 million years. Unbelievably, only the locals know it existed until the early 1980s.

Explore more of the El Questro National Park & Drysdale River Station.
A full day at leisure is included in the El Questro National Park as part of your tour. You may wish to go for a refreshing dip in the Zebedee Springs, enjoy a cruise on Chamberlain Gorge, go on a bushwalk or join a bird watching tour. Later, travel to Drysdale River Station, an oasis in the Outback. This million acre, family owned & operated cattle station runs approximately 10,000 head of cattle and lies in the North Kimberley. Hanging out in the true blue Australian Outback means you have all the magical scenery & feeling of isolation you could ask for.

Continue along the Gibb River Road to the spectacular Mitchell Plateau.
Visit the majestic Mitchell Plateau, a place that is sure to be a highlight on your adventure through the Kimberleys! Enter real 4WD country as you travel the rugged Kalumburu Road before turning off onto the Mitchell Plateau Track. Cross rivers and pass through ancient Livistonia palm forests, emerging onto the savannah and onto the Mitchell Plateau. Here, you will enjoy a trek to Little & Big Merten Falls, with time to take a dip in the pristine plunge pools and view the Bradshaw rock art.
